Stuart Bunting is an independent researcher and consultant based in Suffolk, UK and in 2002 he gained a PhD in Aquaculture from the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, Scotland.

Stuart has an excellent knowledge of climate change adaptation and mitigation through aquaculture; efficient, equitable and resilient aquatic food systems for food and nutrition security; inclusive business models and circular economy strategies; innovation across aquaculture value chains for poverty alleviation; nutrient recovery and value addition from waste resources with ecological engineering and aquatic biorefinery processes; sustainable aquaculture development.

Stuart endeavours to build on over 20 years of experience coordinating research and innovation projects and consultancy assignments to continue to improve the livelihoods of people in poor and marginal communities. He has completed projects in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, France, India, Indonesia, Israel, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, UK and Vietnam and has collaborated with partners across Africa (in Gambia, Ghana, Malawi, Mauritania, Republic of Congo, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Uganda).

Stuart has published over 20 scientific papers, with several more in preparation, and well over 100 consultancy, development project and technical reports for national, international and global agencies. Stuart authored ‘Principles of Sustainable Aquaculture: Promoting Social, Economic and Environmental Resilience‘ in 2013, and is currently engaged in preparing a second edition commissioned by Taylor & Francis Publishers.

Stuart is on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Agricultural Sustainability (Taylor & Francis) and is a Review Editor for Frontiers in Aquaculture (Frontiers) and Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems (Frontiers).
