The Institute of Aquaculture welcomed 4 visitors from the South African Dept of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries this week

Malaysian researcher Umi Salmah from the University of Stirling’s Institute of Aquaculture and funded by the BBSRC Newton Fund Global Research Partnership (GRP): IMAQulate Project conducting her studies within the disease challenge facility of Fish Vet Group Asia based in Chonburi Thailand  

Thi Be Gam Tran, a Vietnamese national started her MSc thesis project to review recent changes in the sector and describe the current practices of sludge removal management in Pangasius farms and other uses of the sludge in the Mekong Delta

John Bostock, Richard Newton and MSc Aquaculture student Alex Pounds all attended the  Asia Pacific Aquaculture conference in Kuala Lumpur where they presented their work on the H2020 EURASTIP project. 

Will Leschen attended the conference the first of its kind on the African   continent - chairing a session, presenting - as well as announcing the winners of the SARNISSA African Aquaculture Network Cage Culture Photos competition.  There were   many participants from all sectors-  commercial research academia government - from throughout the continent and also globally.

Scottish undergraduate intern Marion Short   is carrying out a 6 week tilapia feed trial (monosex vs   mixed sex) on a commercial fish farm in Thailand.  Marion is working in conjunction with Institute's Ghanaian     student Dorcas Mensah's MSc thesis project under the supervision of Professor David Little -  The project and internship is being sponsored by international aquaculture company  Grobest and   Sainsburys supermarket....  Thanks also to Nam Sai Farms  ......
