New Resource For Aquaponics Projects

Danielle Maitland

Danielle Maitland, Director of Science and Cultivation Technology at Aqualitas, has created an extensive database of information about aquaponic systems which she is sharing with the aquaponics community for further development.

“Aquaponics, which combines aquaculture and plant cultivation in an engineered ecosystem, is a relatively new topic of study, with research interest only beginning to exponentially accelerate in recent years. As part of my comprehensive exam, I created a spreadsheet summarizing more than 350 aquaponics articles written between 1977 and 2021, across 68 parameters. Everything from authors/title/journal through system parameters (fish/plant species, system size and design) through inputs (light, fish feed, water, fertilizers) through results (yields, FCRs, conclusions) were included in the spreadsheet. This spreadsheet was first publicly released during an Aquaponics Association Webinar in September 2022. The spreadsheet will be periodically updated on the Aquaponics Association Community Site, but a current version is available below. Any questions related to the spreadsheet can be sent to AquaponicsLiteratureSS@gmail.com.”
