Thanh Le, MSc Sustainable Aquaculture Scholar 2025-26 has produced a short video focusing on why we should be adopting a more critical approach to the issue of farmed tilapia welfare, based on her recent studies.
“Tilapia are often called “hardy fish,” but hardy does not always mean high welfare. I made this video because billions of tilapia are farmed every year, while many welfare problems remain difficult to measure or even recognise. By exploring stress, welfare indicators, and gaps in current systems, this video asks a simple question: are we measuring survival, or are we measuring welfare?”
