Aquaculture Awards 2025: Richard Newton wins Special Recognition Award

We are pleased to share that Richard Newton (Institute of Aquaculture Lecturer in Resilient Food Systems) won the Judges’ Special Recognition Award at the AquacultureUK 2025 Aquaculture Awards ceremony. The judges cited his contribution to helping the industry to improve utilistion of resources, reduce waste and boost profitability. The particular example given was his work on FIFO (Fish in, fish out) ratios that provide more meaningful measures of marine protein utilisation which are being adopted in certification schemes.

The award was presented during a gala dinner at Macdonald Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on 19th June. The awards recognised a wide range of contributions to the aquaculture inustry from Best Producer of the Year through various awards for innovation, collaboration, sustainability and service to industry rising star.
