Participation in the 2025 Shrimp Summit

Prof. Dave Little, Prof. Amaya Albalat and Dr. Simão Zacarias from the University of Stirling Institute of Aquaculture recently participated in The Center for Responsible Seafood (TCRS) 2025 Shrimp Summit in Bali - Indonesia, held in 22-25 June 2025

Prof. Dave Little was one of the keynote speakers and stimulated much interest with his presentation “Enhancing Social License in Farmed small-scale shrimp”. He also chaired a session on “Sustainable Feeds and Feeding”, in which he gave a presentation on “Comparing sustainability credentials for aquafeed ingredients using Life Cycle Assessment.”

Dr. Simão Zacarias chaired the last session of the summit which focused on “Shrimp Welfare” and gave two presentations. The first was given on behalf of TCRS, which showed a case study that reported on a “Gap Analysis of Animal Health and Welfare in Salmon, Shrimp and Tilapia Aquaculture.” The second presentation was on “The paths to viable shrimp non-ablation adoption”.

Prof. Amaya Albalat was one of the panellists of the “Shrimp Welfare” session. She also gave a talk on “Shrimp welfare at slaughter (Penaeus vannamei)”.
