Welfare research presented at Thai stakeholder meeting

A key element of the tilapia stakeholder workshop recently held at the King Mongkut University of Technology, Thonburi was our presentation of recent findings around  perceptions of tilapias of a cross section of Thai consumers.

This was based on two activities. A sensory assessment of farmed tilapias led by Drs Mausam Budhathoki and  Thiranan Kunanopparat and a National,  on-line survey designed by Prof Seda Erdem that assessed a wide range of qualities including welfare level. In both cases, attitudes were assessed using willingness to pay for improved welfare among a basket of qualities. Both independent activities pointed to an interest in, and willingness to pay for a higher welfare in farmed tilapia.
